When the capital of the world New York is mentioned, places like Manhattan and Flushing naturally come to mind. However, Long Island has rapidly emerged to be a prosperous community with its busy food street becoming a new hot spot for local diners seeking pleasure. In this place, Spicy Home Tasty, a Szechuan restaurant, has stood out amid fierce competition and won the title of the “Best Szechuan Restaurant” on Yelp for 3 consecutive years.

The Unique, Authentic Flavors

The importance of flavoring in Szechuan cuisine is no secret, and every Szechuan restaurant maintains its own flavoring style. Mr. Chen, the owner of Spicy Home Tasty, once made a personal visit to Chengdu to learn the essence and techniques of flavoring. All sauces and spices in the restaurant are made by hand from more than 20 ingredients mixed at proper proportions. The meeting between these sauces and different ingredients provokes unique fragrant and mellow flavors that highlight the essence of Szechuan cuisine - “one dish one flavor, a hundred flavors in a hundred dishes”.

Every dish represents the outcome of meticulous research and experiments aimed at perfecting both texture and flavor. The first dish that one must try is Hot & Spicy Fish Fillet. The room is instantly brimming with fragrance when specially made simmering oil mixed with Szechuan pepper, chili and Szechuan green pepper is poured onto the freshly cut sole fillets. The combination of red pepper and white tender fillets not only creates an intense visual impact but also brings the ultimate fresh sensations in your mouth.

Another must-order dish almost for every guest is the ordinary looking Dumplings in Chili Oil, which float on the red hot chili oil with delicate pork stuffings wrapped by smooth skins. Just one bite and you will be able to taste the pungent spiciness and delicious sourness of the soup and the tender and juicy stuffings.

A Life Journey of Many Triumphs

Speaking of life and entrepreneurial experience, the owner, Mr Chen, is an absolute legend. Since coming to the US in the 90's, he has never failed in his business ventures ranging from his first Chinese-Japanese take-out restaurant to a large 6,000 sq ft upscale restaurant to his current Szechuan restaurant. Every time he tried, he made a huge success.

However there are no shortcuts to success, but there must be ways and means.

In the interview with Mr Chen, we found that his ability to win many battles is entirely due to his spirit of constant learning, always maintaining a sense of crisis, constantly refining himself, and moving forward one step at a time. Because of this, he has been able to navigate his way through the changing market, avoiding harm and making accurate choices every time.
