Wherever you go,food can always comfort your heart.Home and home may be far apart,but people’s hearts can be close.The Grand Yard,with delicious food,has entered the hearts of thousands of customers.

The owner Mrs.Lei came to Canada with her husband in March 2005.As Mr.Lei had obtained a professional chef certificate and worked in many well-known restaurants before,he developed extensive experience which laid a solid foundation for the smooth operation of The Grand Yard.

The Grand Yard officially opened in April 2017 in St.Catharines. The location is surrounded by other restaurants and catering peers and enjoys a high volume of traffic. 

It features simple and warm decoration.Mrs.Lei hopes that this clean and comfortable dining environment can make guests feel at home.

It mainly serves Northeastern cuisine,Sichuan cuisine,noodles,and barbecue.The Pork Stir-fried with Pepper is a signature specialty of the restaurant which uses fresh green and red pepper,shredded pork,and seasonings such as green onion,ginger,and garlic to stir-fry.The dish features rich color and taste, and is perfect to eat with rice.The Braised Pork in Brown Sauce is made of meaty and rich pork belly,which is marinated carefully,boiled over high heat,then simmered slowly over low heat until the remaining soup reduces to a minimum level.The pork tastes crispy and tender,fat but not greasy,making it irresistible to diners.Griddle Pork Intestine uses fresh intestine as the main ingredient which has a red glow and a lasting aftertaste.Although all the dishes are ordinary home-cooked dishes that every Chinese knows well,the more ordinary the taste is,the more reminiscent of home it is.   

Mrs.Lei started out serving flour-made dishes such as buns and dumplings.She gradually grasped the essence of cooking tasty dishes after repeated experiments.The ingredients used in the restaurant are very fresh and healthy.The cooking oil bought from the market will be first added lots of ingredients.The reprocessed oil will then be used for cooking,which is a secret recipe of The Grand Yard.The different types of pasta are made-to-order,so they taste much better than the ready-made products bought directly from the market.The Grand Yard also tries to avoid using MSG when cooking in order to preserve the original taste and nutrition of the ingredients to the greatest extent.The sauces used by The Grand Yard are ordered from a fixed supplier in China and shipped by air.Mrs.Lei always regards dishes as the core of a restaurant that should deserve lots of efforts to achieve excellence,therefore,she has been consistently committed to bringing the best taste of dishes to every guest.The fact that a guest enjoys the dishes and can recall the taste after he leaves is the best encouragement for Mrs.Lei.

The Grand Yard also attaches great importance to hygiene,with clear assignment of employees and dedicated positions.The front desk and the restroom are handled by waiters,while the back kitchen is handled by Ms.Lei herself.Since Mrs.Lei has very stringent requirements for cleaning tableware such as chopsticks and spoons,she also takes care of these tasks by herself.It has a special person responsible for cleaning the large exhaust fan in the kitchen and hires a cleaning company to conduct dust and pest control procedures on a monthly basis.

Apart from Mrs.Lei and her husband,the team has three full-time employees and five part-time employees.Usually, its staff will help each other. Although many guests care little about the quality of the service,Mrs.Lei still requires the staff to be good at observing customers’ reactions and communicating with customers in a timely manner to understand and satisfy their different needs. 

Since The Grand Yard participated in the sixth gourmet selection event -“The Best Asian Food in Canada” in October 2019 which was organized by Asia Star TV in collaboration with multiple well-known media outlets,it has been widely praised.Culinary experts score a restaurant by comprehensively evaluating the following five aspects: first impression,hygiene,dining atmosphere,service,and food. In the end,The Grand Yard received a total score as high as 92.8 points (first impression:90 points;hygiene:95 points;dining atmosphere:90 points;service:93 points;food:96 points)! 

Mrs.Lei did not stop due to this accomplishment and she believed the restaurant still had much space for improvement.In the future,she wants to continue to open up the market for foreign customers while attracting more young people and absorbing fresh ideas.She hopes that The Grand Yard can introduce the authentic Chinese food culture to surrounding areas,inherit and further promote the culture to broader customers.
